Lisa makes an excellent point - as penance, I'm going to write a blog entry every day for a week.
SO. Tomorrow is catching-up-on-blogs day. Well, to make it a reasonable goal, let's say catching-up-on-the-last-few-weeks-and-looking-further-back-if-I'm-still-confused day. I would've done this today, except I had to go grocery shopping (super-fun) and my Mom came up to teach me how to SEW.
SEW.
That's right kids, I have joined a Fundamentalist Mormon cult.
Or not.
Call it trying something new, try it getting in touch with my inner-housewife, call it way too many episodes of Project Runway - but in fall I got it stuck in my head that I needed to learn how to make clothes. And for my birthday, my Mom remembered. Mom's always remember.
So I was delighted when she gave me a sewing machine for my birthday... So delighted that in the worst week of storms I have ever seen in California, I found my way to a little-old-lady fabric store ( it was the closest one) and bought a pattern for PJ's and some fabric ( FYI - fabric is expensive! I've made nothing yet, but I'm hoping that this is logical and that making yourself PJ's is still cheaper than buying them).
So after a little pixie dust, I managed to convince my husband - Mr. can-figure-out-how-to-put-together-or-take-apart-anything - to help me set up the thing, and after an hour of staring at the directions, staring at the machine, then staring at the directions again without making any progress, I called in the big guns.
So today, I sewed my first.. thing. Maybe it's a teeny tiny pillow case, or a teeny tiny hat for a rectangular-headed baby, but I suspect it's a weopriunjdsgoi. A beautiful one, made from a scrap of cloth my Grandma sent over, and sewn together 17 times with black thread.
Not quite couture, but one step closer.
SO, (sew), I will be doing my catch up reading tomorrow, writing some further explanations for my current goals ( obsessions), and celebrating my fashion victory tonight.
Before I bid you adieu -
This is my lemon tree:

Lemon tree, bloggers. Bloggers, lemon tree.
This picture was taken back in November I think... Now, there are probably three times as many lemons (and believe me, I've given them away and used a few) and I think they're probably a few weeks away from all dropping down, depressed, unused, unenjoyed.
So does anyone have any fabulous ideas for what to do with a metric ton of lemons?

9 People are Going to Heaven:
I ♥ you! Thanks for paying pennance with a good attitude.
I can't get past the jealously of that lemon tree. I'm paying $2 a lemon and I use them in everything I cook.
Besides eating them in various forms, I'd say turn 'em into some kind of cleaning agent and/or luxurious body-pampering item. Yes, do that. I like that better.
Also, when you make your PJ's, give them footies. And then mail them to me.
Make me a metric ton of lemonade!!! Oh, how I love lemonade.
Yay for sewing! I do everything by hand because I have yet to figure out my ancient avocado sewing machine. Someday... ^_^
Have fun catching up! I just did last night. Took me A WHILE.
My friend Ari reads your blog, and has been telling me to check you out, so hello! You are now added to my Greader.
...I've missed you. *sob*
It's about time, woman! Words cannot express how happy I was to see your name pop up in my reader. I was like, "WHAT? It can't be!"
...but it was. And my heart is glad / seriously coveting your new status as a home owner. Seriously.
P.s I'm mormon and I can't sew. Is that even allowed?
You could make lemon zucchini bread, lemon blueberry bread, lemon poppy seed muffins.....
.....yeah, I like bread way too much haha
I just sharded in my pants when I saw you in my reader!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Holy hell....I am SO friggin stoked YOU are back!!
Sigh....happy and content sigh....
Dont do that again!! :)
I just started sewing myself :) You should see the monstrosity of stuffed animals that I made. It's pretty funny. I wrote a post about it! http://www.tattoosandcupcakes.com/2010/01/it-was-supposed-to-be-rabbit.html
Oh, and you probably don't recognize my new blog, but it's me Shannon from Love,Shannon!!
Hi! I'm the Ari that Heather Rose mentioned. I read - but don't know if I've ever commented.
I'm with Heather - a metric ton of lemonade sounds wonderful!
Once I figured out how to operate my sewing machine, I found that sewing is one of my favorite things to do - when I do it right its really relaxing and when I don't it gives me something to take my anger out on...
Goodness gracious.....where have you been!?!?
I just stopped by here the other day just to make sure I didn't accidently miss anything.
Welcome back love! :)
